“Microsoft has unveiled a new mobile device management product at the CTIA trade show in the US. In connection with the event and in his typical style, Steve Ballmer said that Microsoft is the only company with “the wherewithal” to dominate the world of mobile computing. He also said that Microsoft has no intention of bidding for wireless spectrum “unlike our competitors”.
Comment: This was clearly a dig at Google, which is interested in the upcoming spectrum auction. Ballmer positioned Microsoft as a supporter of the telcos: “we may be broader in what we do than almost any company out there, but we think we have a core competence, and we think that the telecom industry and the service providers have a core competence”"
