lilina update

lilina — Panayotis @ 11:07

It has been way too long since I did anything to improve lilina, the simple PHP-based feed aggregator. So many things to do, so little time :-)

However, thanks to Ryan, who actually took over the project, version 0.9-rc1 is out, with many improvments and bugfixes.

nice lilina installation

lilina — Panayotis @ 10:05

I just found the nicest lilina installation I’ve seen so far. Have a look here, and also at this Dots and Loops post describing the hack… Well done!!!

(I’ll probably integrate some of their code into lilina…)

lilina 0.7

lilina — Tags: — Panayotis @ 10:03

A shinny new version of lilina is out!

0.7 has many improvments, here are the latest entries at the Changelog:
* Update cache only if ?force_update=1 is passed as a parameter.
* Cleaned up the grouping
* Expand/Collapse changes the color of the item.
* Initial Expand or Collapse is done by JS
* UI is much simpler (to allow easier customization)
* cleaned up a lot of things
* “Add” button in edit.php
* MAGPIE_USER_AGENT is set to “lilina $LILINAVERSION (+http://lilina.sf.net/)”
* inc/chkenv.php will automaticaly do some system checking (directory and file permissions)
* Should generate Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional (depending on the contents of the feeds)
* CSS cleanup and improvements
* ALternative CSS (style_fancy.css) illustrates how look can be changed.

lilina: enriching feeds

lilina — Tags: — Panayotis @ 09:12

lilina 0.6.1-pre1 is out. This version is a big step towards the direction I initialy imagined lilina should go. There are many bug fixes, minor functionality improvments and code clean-up, but what I call “content enrichment”.

By “content enrichment” I mean that lilna uses additional sources to enrich the feeds received by sites. One such source is del.icio.us. lilina will automaticaly look up each URL at http://del.icio.us/ and see if there are any tags associated with it. If so, they will be shown. next to the post title like this
lilina+del.icio.us

The second source is Google. Using the Google Web APIs, lilina will query Google for the words contained in the post’s title and show the top 10 results. lilina+google
(you have to obtain a key from Google to enable your lilina installation to use this feature).

You can see lilina in action at my linkblog. Visit lilina project homepage.

lilina forum

lilina — Panayotis @ 06:12

I’ve spent the last days trying to install linux on an xbox, no luck so far -it looks like I have on of the newes ones where the Cromwell OSS BIOS does not work very well.. :-( I gues I’ll have to wait for the next version of cromwell.

However I’ve been getting a lot of mail lately regarding lilina, so I decided to set up a forum at SF so that everyone can easily post ideas, suggestions and problems, and share it with other developers and users.

Merry Christmas!

lilina-0.5.2

lilina — Panayotis @ 15:12

Lilina 0.5.2 is out. Changes/enhancements include better date handling (even for dateless feeds) and opml import/export. HTTP authentication has been droped for session based authentication so that it works nice with php as CGI. Other minor changes and bug fixes too!

I’d really like to see some alternative CSS… Any suggestions?

BTW, if you are using lilina, please post here, including your lilina instalation URL!

lilina 0.5.1

lilina — Panayotis @ 07:11

I released lilina 0.5.1 today. For most of the changes in this version I have to thank Robert Baker for his great work on the CSS and the UI in general.

lilina is quite stable now, I think you should give it a try.

MagpieRSS 0.7 is out!

lilina — Tags: — Panayotis @ 07:11

Magoie 0.7 is out and this has improved character set detection and improved date handling. Read the rest here.

This is great news. I’ll make sure lilina takes advantage of these features…

lilina v0.5

lilina — Panayotis @ 13:11

Ok. They said “release early, release often” and that’s what I’m doing. lilina v0.5 has some news features (like favicons) and bug-fixes (thanks to Dimitris for his comments and code!).

There is still one issue with dates, actually two issues. One is timezones that are not taken into account when sorting. The other is that I do not know what to do with feeds that have no <pubdate>. Dimitris sugested using first read time as pubdate but I do not know if this is the right way to solve the problem…

Also. It looks like with blogs booming feed aggregators are hot. Read this posting (and my comments) at Doc Searls’ IT Garage.

lilina v0.4 is out!

lilina — Tags: , — Panayotis @ 15:11

lilina v0.4 is out. A lot of UI improvments, users can collapse/expand distinct items now, and also add a persistant mark (resembling a bookmark in the traditional way) that will persist between sessions making it easier to keep track of new posts. lilina is a sourseforge project now.

I’m really getting into this DHTML thing!

A good demo of what lilina looks like is my own linkblog.
